Catering Assistant

Now, we’re looking for a Catering Assistant with passion, positivity, and a people-first attitude to join our friendly café team at the YMCA Hawker Centre – a buzzing hub of community activity right on the banks of the Thames.

About the Role

As a Catering Assistant, you will play an important role in ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of our café. You will be responsible for preparing and serving food and beverages to a high standard, maintaining a clean and welcoming environment, and delivering excellent customer service at all times.

This role offers the opportunity to contribute to a socially focused organisation, where your work supports the wellbeing of young people and families in the local community.

What You’ll Do

• Prepare and serve food and beverages with care and attention

• Deliver exceptional customer service in a busy, community-focused café

• Keep all café and dining areas clean, tidy, and inviting

• Assist with stock management, food deliveries, 

• Ensure high standards of hygiene and food safety are always maintained

• Operate and handle transactions accurately

• Work collaboratively as part of a supportive and energetic team

What We’re Looking For

• Experience in a café, catering, or customer service role (preferred but not essential – training will be provided!)

• A team player with great communication and people skills

• Someone who’s enthusiastic, reliable, and ready to get stuck in

• A flexible approach – able to work weekends, evenings, and bank holidays

• A commitment to upholding YMCA values and being a positive role model in the community
